The Blue Parrotfish of the Caribbean are both a cornerstone species of the reefs of the Caribbean but also responsible for some coral deterioration as an inevitable effect of the grazing they do whilst foraging for algae on the reef. Algae if not kept in check, will smother the coral and deprive it of the essential sunlight and water flow it needs for growth and basic survival. That is why I have a love-hate relationship with this species of fish. Beautiful none the less and tons of personality too!
